How do I get a membership?

Memberships are available via the WGA Store.

Who Can Play?

The WRFC draws its players from all the graduate schools of the University of Pennsylvania, although the majority of members are students at the Wharton School. We welcome players of all skill levels and experience. Practices and games are extremely competitive, but we have traditionally fielded both “A” and “B” sides for major tournaments and tours so virtually all members have the opportunity to travel and play against regional, national, and international competition.

Pathetic Excuses Not to Play Rugby

I don’t know how to play rugby. Most of us had not played it before coming to Wharton.

I’m not in shape. Do you think six years at a desk job has turned us into world class athletes? Just get out there and play; You’ll get back into shape.

I don’t have time, I have to focus on my grades. You are taking school wayyyyy too seriously. Ask any current or former Wharthog, they will agree it was the best thing they did at Wharton.

Rugby is too rough. It isn’t gentle, but we truly believe it is a game played by gentlemen.

When are Practices and Games?

The Fall practice schedule is available here.

We have two full seasons – one in the fall and one in the spring. Practices are 2-3 days per week in the Spring and Fall seasons and indoor fitness training is held twice a week during the winter. Games are typically on Saturday afternoon, followed immediately by social activities.

In addition, the Hogs travel as a team to compete at national/international tournaments in Austin, TX in November and Durham, NC for the MBA World Cup in April.

Finally, every spring, the Hogs take a week to tour the globe and hone our skills by playing against international competition. Recent destinations have included Cape Town, South Africa and Buenos Aires and Bariloche, Argentina. In both March 2006 and March 2008, the WRFC was hosted in South Africa by the University of Cape Town. March 2009 took the WRFC to the Rugby capital of South America, Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2010 the Hogs took over Australia’s beaches and rugby fields to prepare mentality, spiritually, and physically for Duke.
